Kristopher Negron Recalled Mike Costanzo Sent Back

Kristopher Negron
The Reds promoted IF/OF Kristopher Negron from Triple A Louisville.  The Reds sent Mike Costanzo back to Louisville.

Negron was hitting .212 with 10 doubles, one triple, five home runs, 16 RBI and 15 stolen bases in 58 games.

Drew Stubbs has a strain near his left oblique and is day-to-day.  The Reds needed more flexibility off its bench but the move leaves them without a lefthanded hitter.

Negron was acquired from the Boston Red Sox on August 14, 2009 for Alex Gonzalez.  He was the Red Sox seventh round pick in 2006.

"We strengthen our bench and ad a little speed and versatility.  He's been playing center field down there and with Stubbs on the shelf that's what we needed," Dusty Baker said.

The California resident has played 11 games at secondbase, 11 games at thirdbase, 20 games at shortstop, 18 in centerfield and one each in left and right.

"I've played centerfield in the past," Negron said.  "I've played a little more this year.  I'm comfortable there."

The 26-year old got the news around midnight in Syracuse from Bats manager David Bell.

"I had a 6:00 am flight through Detroit to Louisville.  I got as many things as I could and drove to Cincinnati. I drove the speed limit. I didn't get much sleep.  I probably was the most I conscientious driving I've ever done to make sure I got here safe."

Negron's mother and dad are flying from Northern California for the next few days to see his major league debut.

"I have been waiting for this day my whole life.  I am going to try to relax and not put any pressure on myself," Negron said. "I worked really hard to get this opportunity."
