Elly De La Cruz Will Miss The Start Of The Game Against The Arizona Diamondbacks.

Elly De La Cruz flew to the Dominican Republic to be with his family. His Genelis died of a long term illness on May 30. 

De La Cruz could have taken a three-day breavement leave but elected to play in the Milwaukee series and fly to the Dominican Republic after the afternoon game with a scheduled day off for the team on Thursday.

The shortstop was attempting to make the series opening game on Friday against the Arizona Diamondbacks but one of his flights was delayed.

"He was trying to make it back in time for the game. He will arrive sometime tonight," Terry Francona said.

Matt McLain will start at shortstop with Garrett Hampson at second base.
