Chistian Encarnacion-Strand was recalled from his rehab assignment of Friday morning as the Reds designated Austin Wynns for assignment.

"He was swinging the bat very well on his rehab," Terry Francona said. "If he's able to stay in the strike zone, he has kind of silly power to all fields. It maybe allows us to move Steer around a little bit.  One, he (Steer) is healthy enough to do it. So maybe it gives up a few more options."

Encarnacion-Strand played in 15 games before being sidelined with inflammation in his lower back on April 17.

CES was hitting .158 with two doubles, two home runs and five RBI. In 10 games at Louisville, he was hitting .324 with five doubles, a triple, two home runs and seven RBI.

Wynns did a remarkable job replacing Tyler Stephenson. The Reds elected to keep him on the roster so they would be comfortable, catching Jose Trevino when Stephenson was the DH.

Wynns leaves with an even .400 average with three doubles, three triples and 11 RBI in 57 games. But he hasn't appeared in a game since May 28 with just five appearances since his last start a month ago on May 6. He has been a late inning replacement in all five games after his last start.

"That was kind of a luxury when we had Wynns here," Francona said. "We have to keep our fingers crossed."

The Reds' are in danger of losing Wynns. Catchers are prone to injury and teams work hard to get depth in that position.

Francona would like to keep him in the organization but realizes that Wynns would rather play in the big leagues than at Louisville.

"He deserves it. I'm not comfortable saying fingers crossed because he deserves to be in the big leagues. He handled a shitty situation really well. He is, was and always will be a professional."
