Devin Mesoraco Placed on the Seven Day Concussion Disabled List
During the Reds' loss Monday night to the San Diego Padres, rookie catcher Devin Mesoraco had nothing but trouble in his brief three innings.
Mesoraco collided at the plate with Cameron Maybin, who was trying to score on a sacrifice fly to right field. Mesoraco was blocking the plate and took a staggering shot from Maybin. The rookie catcher was taken out of the game with dizziness on Tuesday.
On the day he heard that a three-game suspension was handed down along with a fine, Mesoraco was placed on the new seven-day concussion list.
The Reds' purchased the contract of Dioner Navarro from Triple A Louisville to take Mesoraco's place.
To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, Mike Costanzo, was designated for assignment.
Navarro was signed by the Reds on January 16 to a minor league contract. The 28-year old catcher is a switch hitter, who appeared in the 2008 All-Star Game, representing the Tampa Bay Rays.
He appeared in 57 games with Louisville, hitting .330 with 11 doubles, four home runs and 27 RBI. He was named to the International League All-Star squad.
