Todd Frazier Gets the Start at Firstbase Against Arizona

Dusty Baker suspected and the statistics showed that the All-Star game takes a toll on hitters.  Historically, they've started out slowly in the second half.

No matter how well he did on Sunday (2-for-3 with a double and a walk), Joey Votto was going to get Monday off.

"I would have rested him Friday but we needed him against the Cardinals," Baker said.  "He is showing a little fatigue."

Votto broke an 0-for-10 second-half slump with his first inning single on Sunday.

"Brandon has had one of his best second-half starts," Baker said.

"I've already told Joey.  (Todd) Frazier will start at firstbase tomorrow," Baker said.

Frazier hit a key home run on Friday but sat out the next two games, in favor of Scott Rolen who had two hits both games, including the key single to win the Sunday night game.

Drew Stubbs got the night off Sunday and Chris Heisey responded with three hits as the centerfielder.

Baker is trying to win as many games as he can while keeping his team fresh for the late season stretch drive.
