I am a freelance writer. I've covered the Cincinnati Reds, Bengals and others since 1992.
I have a background in sales as well. I've sold consumer electronics, advertising and consumer package goods for companies ranging from the now defunct Circuit City to Procter&Gamble.
I have worked as a stats operator for Xavier University, the University of Cincinnati, the College of Mount St. Joe and Colerain High School.
Mat Latos showed the baseball world why he was worth a former staff ace and three number one draft choices this week with a pair of complete game wins.
Latos allowed just two earned runs, one in each start, while striking out 20, including a career-high 13 against the Milwaukee Brewers. On Saturday he completed a 2-1 victory with the lone run scoring on the second out of the ninth inning.
The Reds traded for the 24-year old righthander this winter giving up former 17-game winner Edinson Volquez, former number one picks, Yonder Alonso and Yasmani Grandal and supplemental first round pick RHP Brad Boxberger to the San Diego Padres.
All four have reached the Major Leagues with San Diego this season.
Boxberger earned a save in a five-game stint before being returned to Triple A Tucson.
Grandall was recalled on Saturday, the same day as Latos second complete game. In his first start, Grandal hit two home runs, his first big league hits and one from each side of the plate. Grandal is a switch hitting catcher, an extremely rare commodity.
The feat failed to overshadow Latos, however. Latos is 7-2 on the season with a 4.42 ERA in spite of a rough first month of the season.
