Edinson Volquez and Mat Latos Meet Face to Face in San Diego

The trade evoked emotional responses from both San Diego and Cincinnati.

The Reds gave up two number one draft picks, a supplemental first round pick and former 17-game winner Edinson Volquez to get 24-year old Mat Latos in a trade on December 17.

Fans in both cities complained that their teams gave up too much.

As fate would have it, the pair meet Thursday night in San Diego.

Latos has pitched complete games in his last two outings.  He is 7-2 with a 4.42 ERA.

Volquez, 29, has also won his last two starts, allowing one earned run in 12 1/3 innings.  Volquez is 5-7 with a 3.68 ERA.

The other principles in the trade Yonder Alonso, Yasmani Grandal and Brad Boxberger are performing as follows:

Alonso is hitting .260 in 79 games with three home runs and 23 RBI.

Grandal was called up last Saturday and hit two home runs in his first start, one lefthanded and one righthanded.  They were the first two hits of his career.  Since, he has played in five games.  He is hitting .300 with four home runs and six RBI.

Boxberger was sent back to Triple A Tucson after pitching in his debut June 10.  He had no record in five games.  He allowed one earned run in 6 1/3 innings.
