Jeter left the Monday night game against the Cleveland Indians with a strained right calf after a single earlier in the game became his 2,994th career hit.
Jeter was placed on the 15-day disabled list, insuring that he will not get the milestone hit against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park. The Yankees vistit GABP for the second time, beginning on Monday, June 20.
The shortstop from Kalamazoo, MI has 68 hits in 293 at bats to this point on the season, a .260 batting average. That mark is his lowest since 1995, his rookie season.
If he continues at that rate and gets 600 at bats, he would finish the season with 3,150 hits. That total would put him in the top 17 all-time, passing Tony Gwynn and Robin Yount.
