Seattle Mariners Sink Luis Castillo And The Reds




Luis Castillo made his third appearance against the Seattle Mariners.

The Mariners scored twice in the first inning on a long home run by Omar Narvaez with Kyle Lewis on base. They held on to win 11-3.

Castillo struck out two in the first inning and two in the second.  He was replaced by Tim Adleman after a single by Lewis.  Narvaez singled and Ryon Healy doubled to score both runners.  Castillo was charged with three runs in two-plus innings.

"The homer I give credit to the hitter.  It was a really good pitch and he put a good swing on it,"Castillo said through interpreter, Julio Morillo. "I got ahead to quick.  I slowed my tempo down. I'm happy with what I did tonight."

"I thought Castillo threw the ball well," David Bell said.  "I think he is trying to get his feel.  He's getting there he's getting closer.  He is close on his fastball. He's not there yet.  I'm sure he's happy with his changeup."

The Reds drew even with a run in the first off starter Yusei Kikuchi.  Curt Casali singled in his first Cactus League at bat.  He was slowly recovery from hip surgery.  Joey Votto drew the first of his two walks. Yasiel Puig hit an infield single off the leg of Kikuchi.  Scooter Gennett hit a sacrifice fly.

Derek Dietrich's second home run of the spring tied the game.

The two runs scored in the Mariners' third put the Reds in a 4-2 hole.  It got deeper with two runs off Jackson Stephens.  Ichiro Suzuki, the 45-year old walked. Dylan Moore pinch ran for him. Shed Long singled on a hit-and-run play.  Moore scored when Kristopher Negron bunted to Votto. Braden Bishop singled to score former Red, Long.

The Reds scored a run off Zac Rosscup in the sixth.  Aristedes Aquino and Nick Senzel singled. Dietrich walked to load the bases.  Jose Iglesias sharp single to center scored Aquino.

Brandon Finnegan had a rough outing. He walked two then gave up an RBI single to Negron.  Bishop lined a drive to left that was hooking.  Third base umpire Adam Hamari ruled it fair.  Finnegan had his hands on his knees and David Bell gave a mild argument before removing Finnegan.  He pitched 2/3 innings with two hits, four runs and two walks.  Finnegan had one strikeout.

Jose Siri slipped chasing a line drive hit by Jose Lobaton off Jimmy Herget.  Moore's single capped the scoring.

"Siri is alright," Bell said.  "He slipped. I don't know the exact reason for that  but the ball kind of came up an got him.. He's alright."
