Billy Hamilton Leads Royals Over Reds






Billy Hamilton had two hits and scored two runs as the Kansas City Royals scored five runs off Vladimir Gutierrez in the Reds 8-3 loss.

Jose Peraza hit a two-run home run after Royals' starter Ian Kennedy hit Derek Dietrich.  It would lead to warnings in the bottom of the eighth when Lucas Sims threw too close to Khaili Lee.

"I get it. At that point they had to warn us both," Bell  "I know we weren't trying to hit anybody."

Hamilton opened the bottom of the first with a double.  He scored on a double by Alex Gordon.  Gordon scored on a hit by Hunter Dozier.

Lee doubled to open the second inning for the Royals. Meiberys Viloria singled pushing Lee to third.  Hamilton sent a line drive back through the middle to score Lee  Humberto Arteaga singled Hamilton home.  David Bell removed Gutierrez and brought in Batavia's Seth Varner to finish the inning.

"Gutierrez has been so good all spring.  He had a little bit of a tough time there," Bell said.  "For him it doesn't wipe away what he's done to this point."

The Royals pulled off a double steal with Raisel Iglesias pitching.  Iglesias struck out Dozier and Brian Goodwin but Lopez and Lee hit back-to-back singles to put runners on first and third.  With Suarez playing off the line at third.  Lee took off for second.  Lopez waited for the throw to go through and sprinted home.

The Reds got a run back in the fourth Phil Ervin, wearing Hamilton's number 6 doubled.  He has hit safely in six of his eight appearances.  He scored on Jesse Winker's ground ball to first.

The Royals got two unearned runs off Anthony Bass in the fifth.  Vaner, Jared Hughes, Sims, Keury Mella and Ian Krol had scoreless outings.
