Homer Bailey Activated Jordan Smith Sent Down

Homer Bailey will start against the Houston Astros today.  An impingement in his right shoulder has kept him on the major league sideline for the first 30 games.

Jordan Smith will be sent to Louisville to make room for Bailey.

Smith is close to staying in the big leagues a long time.  He was upset when the Reds sent him to minor league camp in the last week of spring training but an injury to Jared Burton allowed the big righthander to open the season with the Reds.

"He's close," Dusty Baker said of Smith.  "He's just got to work out a few things but he's real close to staying here a long time.  He had to work a lot with the short starts."

Smith is second to Logan Ondrusek for innings out of the bullpen with 17.
