When Sonny Gets Blue The Skies Are Gray And Cloudy. Sonny Gray Ready For More Sunny Days,

The lone cloud over Reds spring training camp broke open to display the sun on the Reds off day.

Manager David Bell encouraged the Reds' players to stay home and take the day off.  Sonny Gray was the lone exception.

Gray, obtained by the Reds for Shed Long, in last January, came up with a tight elbow.  The Reds shut him down for four days and put him on a throwing program under the watchful eyes of Derek Johnson and Caleb Cotham both of whom have connections with Gray from their days at Vanderbilt University.

On Tuesday, Gray threw live batting practice to minor leaguers Brantley Bell, Alejo Lopez, Rylan Thomas and Mike Siani.  He threw 26 pitches and the four batsmen had trouble making contact.  Only Bell was able to his the ball fair into deep center field.

It was Gray's third stint off the mound and the first against hitters.

"I feel good," Gray said.  "The goal was to walk away feeling good.  I definitely do.  We'll make a plan and go from here.  I threw everything. From here we'll come up with a plan and go from there."

There is no date set but Gray is ready to pitch in a game.
"I think I can be ready for the season.  It is a progression right now to build up.  I wanted to get on the mound facing hitters.  We will sit down tomorrow and come up with a plan. The more you get on the mound the better.  I feel great right now."
