Angels Leave Reds Without A Prayer

Anthony DeSclafani, who appears to be healthy, pitched two scoreless innings but the Los Angeles Angels but Luis Castillo and Cody Reed weren't as lucky and the Reds fell, 11-2.

Castillo gave up a home run to Justin Bour with a man on to put the hurt on the Reds.  He gave up three runs in the third inning and tw0 more in the fourth.  Cody Reed gave up six runs, on six hits, including a home run by Peter Bourjos.

"Their stuff was ok but they weren't sharp.  They fell behind hitters," David Bell said.  "We only walked one which is unusual for an 11 run game."

The Reds scored two runs in the sixth after they were behind 11-0.

Aristedes Aquino had three hits, including a triple.  Brian O'Grady hit a home run in the sixth off Jaime Barria.

In the seventh inning Keinner Pina hit a long fly off Anthony Bass that O'Grady had to chase down.  O'Grady made the catch but ran into the fence face first.

"He made a great catch. He smashed the bill of his cap," Bell said.  "He tried to talk me into staying in the game.  He's a tough kid."

Bell sent TJ Friedl to left to replace O'Grady.

It was a positive day for DeSclafani, who is trying to reverse the trend and get out of camp healthy and start the season healthy for the first time since 2015.

“DeSclafani was really good. He was really free and easy," Bell said. "I know he's really excited about the way he feels. Talking to guys who were here last year, They said there is a noticeable difference in his delivery and how free it is. It is showing up in the results.”

Notes:

Sonny Gray threw on the side on Saturday and told Bell it went well.

Sonny Gray came out really good. He was down here I was talking to him. He felt good. He'll take the next step,” Bell said.

Robert Stephenson and Matt Bowman have been on a throwing program and Bell expects them to pitch in games soon.....Curt Casali had surgery to repair the labrum in his hip in the off-season. He is participating in catching drills and taking batting practice. Bell expects to get him into a game around March 15.
