Reds Sign Cuban Pitcher Vladimir Gutierrez

The Reds signed RHP Vladimir Gutierrez to a minor league contract officially Wednesday morning.

Gutierrez has been in Cincinnati for two days.  The contract was agreed upon but was contingent on a physical which Gutierrez passed.

He becomes the fourth native Cuban signed by the Reds since 2010.  Aroldis Chapman and Raisel Iglesias have also signed and pitched with the Reds.

On July 4 the Reds' signed 22-year old Cuban shortstop Alfredo Rodriguez.

Gutierrez, 20 (will turn 21 Sept 18) , is 6' 1" tall and weighs 175 pounds.  He pitched for Pinar del Rio in the Cuban National League in 2013 and 2014.  Gutierrez, who has a fastball clocked at 97 mph, appeared in 52 games with Pinar del Rio in his two seasons, starting three games.  Gutierrez had a 8-10 record with a 3.27 ERA.
