Oak Hills Joel Bender Promoted To Louisville

The rash of Reds' injuries has created an opportunity for Oak Hill's Joel Bender.

hander has just been told that he will be leaving the Daytona Beach Tortugas the Reds/ High-A team to it's Triple A affiliate in Louisville.

The Florida State League is four days away from its All-Star game.

Bender will bolster the Louisville pitching staff that has been gutted by injuries to the Reds.

On Monday the Reds put Tony Cingrani on the disabled list.  In the first inning of Monday's game, Jon Moscot suffered a dislocated left shoulder, requiring another pitcher from Louisville's staff.

Bender, 23, is 3-1 with a 3.70 ERA in 22 games. He struck out 35 and walked 12 in 41 1/3 innings

The Reds selected Bender in the 27th round of the 2010 draft. Bender pitched in Dayton the last two seasons but was promoted to Bakersfield to pitch in the playoffs last season.

The move may be temporary but it gives Bender an opportunity to prove that he belongs at a higher level.
