First Taste Of Replay Challenge For Reds

Bryan Price is 0-for-1 on replay challenges.

His challenge of a tag play at second base in the Reds' exhibition game at Tempe Diablo Stadium was upheld.

Hank Conger singled off Sam LeCure with Erick Aybar on secondbase. Rightfielder Roger Bernadina threw home where there was no play.  Catcher Brayan Pena came out of his crouch and threw to second to prevent Conger from advancing.  Shortstop Ramon Santiago took the throw to attempt the tag. Secondbase umpire Jim Reynolds ruled Conger safe.

Price asked for a review that lasted 2:15.

"You hope there is an opportunity to go out and utilize it," Price said before the game.

Price was intent on using the challenge at the first opportunity which presented itself on this play.

"This is spring training," Price said. "There is a reason why teams continue to run down 6-0. During the
season, you wouldn't risk an out down 6-0 but here you don't want to quit playing.  With the instant replay you might not get another chance to challenge the call.  I think here you have to challenge it just to get acclimated to the process."
