The Reds Make Their First Round of Cuts

The Reds sent 12 players out to the back fields of the minor league camp Tuesday afternoon.

The Reds optioned LHP Tony Cingrani and RHP Daniel Corcino to Triple-A Louisville.

RHP Kyle Lotzkar and  RHP Josh Ravin were optioned to Double-A Pensacola.

Carlos Contreras and OF Yorman Rodriguez were optioned to high A Bakersfield.

LHP Ismael Guillon was optioned to low A Dayton.

RHP Nick Christiani, RHP Chad Rogers, C Nevin Ashley, IF Kristopher Negron and OF Ryan LaMarre were reassigned to minor league camp.

The move leaves 44 players in the major league camp.

The camp began with 58 players. With starting pitchers getting deeper into games, most of the cuts were pitchers.  Fewer are needed to eat innings.

There are still four non-roster pitchers in camp, LHP Wilkin De La Rosa, RHP Armando Galarraga, RHP Drew Hayes and RHP Clay Hensley.

Galaraga and Hensley have major league experience.  De La Rosa and Hayes do not.

Two non-roster catchers remain; Corky Miller and Miguel Olivo.

Emmanuel Burris and Cesar Izturis are the two non-roster infielders left.  Billy Hamilton, Denis Phipps and Derrick Robinson are the non-roster outfielders, who survived the first cut.
