Ramon Hernandez Signs With Colorado Rockies

Ramon Hernandez signed a two-year contract with the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday.

Heranandez spent the last three seasons with the Reds.  The Reds will get an extra pick in the supplemental round of the 2012 player draft as compensation.  The supplemental round is held after the first round and is only for teams that lost type A or B players to free agency.

The Rockies traded catcher Chris Iannetta earlier in the day.

The 35-year old hit .282 for the Reds with 12 home runs and 36 RBI with a lot of key hits.  Manager Dusty Baker called him "Clutch man Monie".

The Rockies trading Iannetta to the Los Angeles Angels has significance for the Reds.  The Angels expressed interest in the Reds other catcher, Ryan Hanigan.  Devin Mesoraco has a good chance to make the Reds our of spring training with Hernandez gone.  The Reds first round draft choice in 2010, Yasmani Grandal, will also compete for a roster spot this spring.
