One of my favorite former Reds' players, Dmitri Young, is trying to make a comeback. John Fay of the Enquirer reported that Walt Jocketty is considering signing Young to a minor league contract.
Young is a switch-hitting outfielder/firstbaseman, who hit over .300 for the Reds all four seasons he played in Cincinnati from 1998 through 2001. He was a member of the 96-win 1999 team that narrowly missed the playoffs.
Young is 38-years old and played 13 seasons, his last being 2008 with Washington.
There is very little risk to the team to sign Young, who will likely be invited to spring training. The chance for Young is similar to the one extended to Dontrelle Willis, who was Young's teammate in Detroit.
Young was drafted in the first round of the 1991 draft by the St. Louis Cardinals. He was the fourth player chosen in the draft. His younger brother, Delmon, was the first player taken in the 2003 draft. Delmon, who was originally drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays and played last season with Minnesota and Detroit.
