Rockies Manager Jim Tracy and Reds Dusty Baker in the Same Boat

The Reds and Rockies are mirror images.  Not only do their initials C R match, the disappointing seasons for both are astoundingly similar.

The Rockies 53-62 and Reds 55-59 suffer the same affliction, lack of timely hitting and pitching mistakes in key moments of games.

The Rockies made the playoffs in 2009.  The Reds in 2010 but both have struggled this season for much the same reason.

Jim Tracy won the NL Manager of the Year Award for rallying the team after a horrible start under Clint Hurdle.  The same Clint Hurdle, who had the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates in the Central Division race until this month. Baker narrowly missed his fourth award by one point in the balloting last season.

The Reds are 17-26 in one-run games.  The Rockies are 16-20.

Tracy, the native of Hamilton, Ohio and graduate of Badin High School and Marietta College, had the following to say about the state of his team.

"We had a great spring training and a great first month.  Since then we have had a lack of timely hitting and have made bad pitches with the game on the line.  I did some research.  Since the beginning of 2010, we have been in 94 one-run games and lost 50 of them.  We need to pay attention to the little things that make the difference in tight games.  Each of us has to concentrate at key moments of the game."

That sounds familiar to Reds fans.
