Mt. St. Joe Grad Steve Matre Still Hot in the Pioneer League

Steve Matre missed his senior season at Mt. St. Joe and fell three saves short of the NCAA Division III record with 32 career saves.

Matre, out of Purcell Marian High School, doesn't have a professional save but is mowing down Pioneer League hitters at a rapid pace.

The 6'3" righthander was the Los Angeles Dodgers 39th pick in the 2010 draft and signed in late August after recovering from elbow surgery that cost him the saves record.

He only pitched two innings in the Arizona League last summer and went to his first spring training last season.  The Dodgers assigned him to Ogden, where he has gotten off to a great start.

Matre has authored 12 innings, two in each of his six appearances.  He has allowed just two runs for a 1.50 ERA.  The most eye-popping stats however, are his walk and strikeout numbers.  Matre has walked just one batter but has struck out 20 Pioneer League hitters.  He has given up 12 hits, including a home run.
