Matt Holiday hit two home runs off Edinson Volquez and drove in four runs while Jaime Garcia held the Reds to one run.
Holiday homered in the first off Volquez to continue the pitchers penchant for giving up runs in the first inning.
Lance Berkman connected on the next pitch. Volquez gave up home runs to the first two batters of a game twice this season. Milwaukee's Rickie Weeks and Carlos Gomez did it to open the season. He also allowed home runs to the first two Pirate batters, Andrew McCutchen and Jose Tabata, on April 17,
This time two were out before the consecutive blasts occurred.
Holiday followed an error by shortstop Paul Janish and a single by Jon Jay with his second home run of the night.
The Reds got within a run in the fourth inning. Brandon Phillips doubled to start the inning. He went to third on a ground out by Joey Votto and scored on a ground out by Scott Rolen.
The run that eluded them in Monday's 1-0 loss did them no good on Tuesday.
Volquez allowed seven runs six earned.runs and Sam LeCure surrendered one more in the sixth.
The Reds got three lonely singles after Phillips double.
The Reds fell four games behind the Cardinals in the Central division and one game below .500 at 44-45. The team is slumping all up and down the lineup.
