Brady Singer is gettting the assignment to pitch against the front runners in the National League Central Division, the Milwaukee Brewers.
The 29-year old right hander is 2-6 with a 5.39 ERA in 14 starts but will work on building on two recent good starts.
The last two starts were a six inning start against the San Diego Padres in which he allowed two runs on six hits and a walk with five strikeouts. He was the winning pitcher in his last start on June 16 against the New York Mets. He gave up one run in five innings on three hits and three walks. He struck out five in the 5-3 win.
Most significantly, Singer has not allowed a home run in his last two outings after he was plagued by 17, near the top of the league, this season.
Singer is 2-2 in four starts with a 4.82 against the Brewers in his career. He made two starts against them last season. He was the losing pitcher in a 3-2 decision against them on June 2 last season. He allowed three runs on five hits and three walks. Singer gave up a home run to Christian Yelich. His last start was on September 28. He lost a 4-2 game, lasting only 3 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk. He gave up a home run to Danny Jansen.
Brandon Woodruff will pitch for the Brewers. The 33-year old right hander has a 2-1 record with a 3.60 ERA in six starts.
He returns from the injured list after leaving a start on April 30 against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the second inning with what was described as a "dead arm." His velocity was way down and he needed rest. He put together two quality starts before going down. He pitched seven innings, allowing one run on three hits and a walk against the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 18 which followed a six inning stint against the Washington Nationals on April 24. He gave up one run on three hits and a walk, while striking out six.
"I'm tired of watching," Woodruff told Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Woodruff is 7-4 with a 3.48 ERA against the Reds in 15 appearances and 13 starts. The Brewers, fifth round pick in the 2011 draft out of Mississippi State University (Jeff Brantley's alma mater), last pitched against the Reds on September 22, 2022 at Great American Ball Park. He pitched six innings allowing one run on three hits in a 5-1 win over the Reds. He pitched in a total four games that season against the Reds, winning three of them.
