Rhett Lowder Continues His Quest To Earn Spot In Rotation Against The Texas Rangers

 Also  Follow Reds on https://athlonsports.com/

Dateline: Goodyear, Arizona

Rhett Lowder is scheduled for four innings against the Texas Rangers on Saturday (031426) with the idea of winning one of the two open starting rotation starts.

Lowder will make his fifth Cactus League start. He allowed only one run in eight innings in his first four starts but had a "hiccup" against the Athletics in his last endeavor as he allowed five runs, three earned on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings. He struck out four and worked up to 59 pitches.

The idea would be to stretch to around 70 pitches against the Rangers.

The lineup behind Lowder is:

TJ Friedl DH

Will Benson CF

Jose Trevino C

Nathaniel Lowe 1B

JJ Bleday RF

Rece Hinds LF

P.J. Higgins 3B

Michael Chavis 2B

Leo Balcazar SS

The lineup features two non-roster players Higgins and Chavis and one assigned to the minor league camp. The Reds had one late afternoon split squad game on Friday and one night game. Players like Matt McLain, Spencer Steer, Noelvi Marte and Elly De La Cruz played in back-to-back games plus the night-day turnaround predicates a day off with another split squad scheduled for Wednesday.

Jose Trevino certainly would not bat third in the Reds lineup during the season. He will catch fewer innings to back off his workload but they want to get him an extra at bat.
