Edinson Volquez was recalled from Louisville after two starts.
Daryl Thompson, who was up with the Reds for one day but didn't pitch, has been sent back to Louisville.
Volquez pitched 14 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on 10 hits. He walked six and struck out seven.
