Former Mt. St. Joseph Pitcher Steve Matre to Pitch at Ogden This Summer

Steve Matre was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 39th round last year.

Matre had 32 saves for Mount St Joe three shy of the all-time Division III record but missed the entire 2010 season with elbow surgery.

Matre was pitching for the Cincinnati Steam when Dodgers area scout, Tom Keefe, gave him the news that he was drafted.  He signed later that summer and appeared in two games for the Arizona Rookie League Dodgers in Glendale, Arizona.

The Dodgers have kept Matre in Arizona for extended spring training until the Pioneer League opens on June 20.  The plan is for Matre to be assigned to the Ogden Raptors in Ogden, Utah.

Matre is a graduate of Purcell Marian High School in Cincinnati.
