Cardinals Score 3 But Reds Lead 5-3 Middle of the 8th

Cueto got the first out of the eighth inning but errors by the Reds better infielders cost him a shutout.

Paul Janish bobbled a ground ball by Daniel Descalso.  Multiple Gold Glove winner, Scott Rolen couldn't handle a potential double play ball hit by Nick Greene.  John Jay ruined the shutout with a home run.  Cueto got Ryan Theriot to fly harmlessly to right but walked Colby Rasmus.

Dusty Baker went to the bullpen.  Logan Ondrusek came in to face Albert Pujols as the tying run.  Ondrusek appeared to get Pujols but his chop toward Rolen took a very high bounce over the recently injured left shoulder of the Reds thirdbaseman.  That brought Matt Holliday and his .396 batting average.  Holliday popped foul to Hernandez to end the threat.

Cueto has pitched 13 2/3 innings since his return.  He allowed three runs but none of them were earned.  He should have been out of the eighth inning with a shot at a complete game.  Cueto threw 101 pitches, allowed only three hits and walked two.
