Bruce and Votto Put Reds On Top Of Cubs

Jay Bruce hit his fifth home run in 11 at bats and Joey Votto hits his way on with an RBI single as the Reds with Edinson Volquez on the mound lead the Cubs 5-2 in the sixth.

Votto has reached base with a hit and/or a walk in all of the Reds first 32 games.

Brandon Phillips saved some runs for Volquez, who is pitching like the ace the Reds expect him to be.  Phillips dove for a ball behind the second base bag and flipped it to Edgar Renteria behind his back to force Kosuke Fukadome at second.  The Cubs had two men on and no outs at the time.   The Cubs took the leas with an unearned run but the play saved more.

Bruce unloaded a three-run home run for his team leading seventh of the season.  Votto singled in a run in the top of the fifth to drive in a run.
