Christian Yelich Assault On The Steamboat Leads To Brewers Eighth Straight Win

Christian Yelich the reigning National League Player of the Week crushed a home run that nearly reached the steamboat in center field to power the Milwaukee Brewers to a 3-2 win over the Reds.

It was his sixth home run in nine games.

"I tried to get it low and away," Brady Singer, the Reds' starter said. "It was a pitch I wish I had back."

The Brewers came into the game riding a seven-game winning streak. 

The Reds started off fast in the first inning against Milwaukee starter Aaron Civale.

TJ Fridle doubled to lead off for the Reds. Elly De La Cruz singled to score Friedl. Tyler Stephenson singled De La Cruz to third. Spencer Steer bunted for a single and put runners on second and third with one out but Will Benson struck out and Jose Trevino popped out.

"That was our best chance," manager Terry Francona said. "We didn't come through. We had a tough break with Friedl running in the fifth inning. Lux hit it right to where the shortstop moved to."

Singer ran into control problems in the second inning. with one out, Sal Frelick singled. Andruw Monasterio doubled to the left centerfield gap. Singer walked the eighth hitter, Jake Bauers and the ninth hitter, Joey Ortiz to force in a run. Brice Turang hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game. Christian Yelich hit his 13th home run high off the batter's eye in center.

"I was trying to pitch around Bauers with a right hander on deck," Singer said. "But I missed with him too. I need to fill up the strikezone more. I can't give away bags."

Brent Suter took over for Singer, who allowed three earned runs in five innings, on four hits and three walks with four strikeouts.

Both bullpens put up zeroes the rest of the game.

Ian Gibaut, Taylor Rogers and Scott Barlow kept the Reds close but Rob Zastryzny, Jared Koenig and Abner Uribe set up Trevor Megil for his 11th straight save and 12th of the season.
