Christian Encarnacion-Strand doubled home ghost runner Jake Fraley to send the Reds into the second game with a 4-3 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Graham Ashcraft, Emilio Pagan and winner Tony Santillan shut down the Diamondbacks with four scoreless innings. Ashcraft pitched two innings, allowing one hit. Pagan struck out two in a scoreless ninth. Santillan stranded ghost runner Eugenio Suarez, who reached third with one out by striking out Ildemaro Vargas and Tim Tawa to earn the winning decision.

CES had the walk off hit for the fourth time in his career. This time Ryan Thompson was the victim.

"I like the pressure," Encarnacion-Strand said. "I'm a big fan of pressure. Being healthy and being on the field is hands down the best feeling."

The Reds are looking for a big boost from CES.

"He (CES) should be feeling pretty good about himself. He had good at bats in Triple A. It's nice to see him have a little success here. Maybe it will carry over," Terry Francona said.

The Reds and Arizona Diamondbacks tried to get the game in before the rain storm hit. It did not work.

At 9:00 with the game tied 3-3 after six innings the umpires ordered the tarp on the drenched infield.

Nick Lodolo started on the mound for the Reds.

The game was scoreless after two innings.

Lodolo retired the first seven Diamondback hitters but Tim Tawa hit the ball off the end of the bat to Santiago Espinal at third base. He had no play and Tawa was the first base runner. Keitel Marte launched his 12th home run of the season to put Arizona on top. Geraldo Perdomo hit his seventh of the season. The back-to-back homers gave the visitors a 3-0 lead.

Eduardo Rodriguez, who was just removed from the injured list on Friday, pitched two scoreless innings.

The struggling Matt McLain started at shortstop because Elly De La Cruz was late getting back from his sister's funeral in the Dominican Republic.

He opened the bottom of the third with a single. Garrett Hampson popped up. TJ Friedl hit a long home run to cut the lead to one.

Encarnacion-Stroud came off the injured list on Friday. The Reds designated Austin Wynns for assignment. CES singled in the fourth inning and hit his third home run of the season to the berm in center field to tie the game.

Jose Trevino hit his second single of the game following the bomb by CES. Trevino took second on a wild pitch. Pinch hitter Will Benson sent Trevino to third with a ground ball to Tawa at first.

McLain walked but Gavin Lux grounded out before the tarp was brought out.

The game was suspended. It will restart at 2:10 on Saturday before the scheduled 4:10 contest.
