Will Benson's return to the big leagues lasted four days and four strikeouts. The left handed power bat needs work in the minor leagues that spot starts at the big league level can't provide.

He hit .342 in nine games at Louisville before his recall on Tuesday in San Francisco. He hit two doubles, a triple, two home runs and drove in eight for the bats.

Benson struck out four times in his lone start this week.

The move allows the Reds to recall from the injured list, lefty Andrew Abbott after he made two rehab starts in Louisville. He pitched 10 innings and allowed four runs, ramping up to 92 pitches.

Abbott hasn't pitched since August 18. He suffered his 10th loss that day to go with his career-high 10 wins. He felt pain in his shoulder and avoided surgery with rest.

The injury and the flu bug put Abbott behind the other pitchers in spring training but is now deemed ready to face the Pittsburgh Pirates and Andrew Heaney.
