Reds" Win Streak Ends At One

The Reds winning streak lasted around three hours.

Bryan Reynolds set the tone with a two-run home run off Dauri Moreta to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates to an 8-5 win and double header split.

The Reds announced that newly acquired Robert Dugger would start the second game of the double header caused by the cancellation of the first week of games.  Instead, Moreta started.  The right hander struck out Ben Gamel but Bryan Reynolds followed with his third home run of the season.  Ke'Bryan Hayes hit a double.

David Bell brought in left handed pitcher Phil Diehl to face lefties Daniel Vogelbach and Yoshi Tsutsugo with Diego Castillo behind them.

Vogelbach lined out hard to center fielder T.J. Friedl.  Tsutsugo hit his first home run of the season to make it a three-run game.  Castillo's second home run of the season made it 4-0.

The Reds fought back against Mitch Keller.

Tyler Naquin was hit by a pitch.  Brandon Drury doubled him home and took third on the throw. Mike Moustakas stroked a single to center to cut the lead in half.

The Reds then brought Dugger in to pitch.

Dugger was in trouble right away.

With one out Cole Tucker hit a single. Gamel singled.  Both runners moved up on a wild pitch.  The Reds had to pull the infield in.  Bryan Reynolds hit a shot to Reds' second baseman, Matt Reynolds who doubled Tucker off third.

The Pirates' hitters went to work in the fourth against Dugger.

Jack Suwinski walked with one out. One out later Tucker doubled to score Suwinski.  Gamel followed with his second home run of the season and second hit of the game.

Drury's fifth home run with Friedl and Aramis Garcia on base to bring the margin back to two runs.

Hayes leadoff single in the sixth caused Dugger's exit with Alexis Diaz coming in.

The Pirates loaded the bases with tow outs.  Andrew Knapp, who competed with Garcia for the Reds' backup catcher job in Goodyear, struck out for the third time in the game.

Moustakas led off the sixth with a ground rule double to right.  Colin Moran flied out.  Heath Hembree, who pitched for the Reds last year got the final two outs to preserve the lead.

Suwinski doubled home Vogelbach with two outs in the seventh against Tony Santillan.

The Reds opened the seventh inning with two base runners.  Drury's third hit and second double was followed by a walk to Pham.  Max Kranick, who drove here from Indianapolis, struck out Moustakas and Moran before Farmer grounded out to end the threat.

RHP Jared Solomon made his major league debut in the ninth inning.  He was the Reds' 11th round pick in 2017.  The 24-year old pitched 10 2/3 scoreless innings between Chattanooga and Louisville before being selected as the 27th man for the double header.
