Aristides Aquino Wins Double Award For August
Aristedes Aquino was named the National Leagues Best Player in August. He also walked away with the Rookie of the Month Award.
He hit .320 for the month with 14 home runs and 33 RBI. He won with no serious challenger.
Aaron Judge won both awards twice in 2017. Yasiel Puig, who was replaced by Aquino, in 2013. Puig was the first.
On Monday, Aquino hit his 15th home run to become the fastest (122) plate appearances to 15 in MLB history. Rhys Hoskins of the Phillies hit two home runs on Monday. He had been the fastest to 15, doing it in 235 plate appearances. Hoskins hit his 16th in his 237th plate appearance.
Aquino also tied Frank Robinson for the most home runs in a calendar month. Robinson hit 14 home runs in August 1962. Greg Vaughn did it in September 1999. It is the National League record for a rookie.
The Reds recalled RHP Keury Mella and INF/OF Brian O'Grady from Triple A Louisville. Jose Peraza will be returned shortly.
