It is the tale of two Tanners.  The Reds get RHP Tanner Roark from  the Washington Nationals in exchange for Tanner Rainey, the rookie relief pitcher who worked as a closer in the Reds’ organization.

Roark, 32, has spent his entire Major League career with the Nationals, compiling a 64-54 record and 3.59 ERA over six seasons, 141 starts and 41 relief appearances. In 2018, he went 9-15 with a 4.34 ERA in 30 starts and one relief appearance and ranked 12th in the National League with 17 quality starts. He also ranked T5th in the NL with 18 GIDP induced and seventh with 11 starts of at least 7.0 innings.

Rainey made eight appearances last year for the Reds.  He pitched seven innings and had a 24.43 ERA.  He was the Reds second pick in the 2015 draft out of the University of West Alabama.  Rainey turns 26 on Christmas day.
