Devin Mesoraco Sad Statistic Amir Garrett Returns

Devin Mesoraco is on an odd losing streak that is not entirely his doing.

The Reds have lost every one of the last 21 games started by the Reds' first pick in the 2007 draft.  The Reds have been on the losing end in all 17 of the games Mesoraco has appeared in this season.

Hal McCoy of the Dayton Daily News discovered the disturbing trend.  It would be absurd of course to single out Mesoraco as the cause of any of the games but it does show a statistical anomaly.

The last game the Reds won with Mesoraco as a starter was on June 27, 2017 when the Reds defeated the Milwaukee Brewers, 8-6.  That day Mesoraco was a key contributor to the win.  He was 1-for-3 with a walk and drove in two runs.

Amir Garrett returned an hour before game time after attending the funeral of his aunt.  The Reds quickly activated Garrett and optioned RHP Tannner Rainey to Louisville.  Rainey got three days of Major League pay but did not appear in a game.
