Michael Lorenzen Off Reds Comeback Win Over White Sox

Michael Lorenzen couldn't tell what it was but something in his delivery was off.

He gave up five earned runs on five hits in 1 2/3 innings but Brandon Dixon hit a two-run home run and Chadwick Tromp, yes THE Chadwick Tromp (my new favorite baseball name) singled home Alex Blandino for the win..

Leury Garcia hit the first of two White Sox triples and scored in the first inning.  Lorenzen couldn't find his rhythm and gave up four more in his second inning.

"I don't know what it was but I know it wasn't right.  I have to look at tape and find out what it was.  I will work on it to be more consistent," Lorenzen said.

Lorenzen has four weeks to fix it but the Sox got five hits and two walks.

"He didn't have a pitch to go to for a strike," Bryan Price said. "He didn't have a breaking ball to get over.  He just wasn't very sharp."

The Reds loaded the bases with no outs in their first at bat.  Billy Hamilton in a lead off role, walked.  Eugenio Suarez had the first of his three hits,  Joey Votto walked.  Hamilton scored on a fly to right by Devin Mesoraco.

Barrett Astin followed Lorenzen and gave up a run.

The Reds' off season free agent bullpen pitchers, Jared Hughes and /David Heranandez threw scoreless innings.  Wandy Peralta gave up two hits and walked a batter but Sebatian Elizarde threw out Omar Navaez at the plate to stop a run.  Peralta took care of the other two White Sox with strikeouts.

The Reds scored two in the fifth.  Suarez and Scooter Gennett singled and Mesoraco drove in Suarez with a double.  Gennett scored on a ground out by Jose Peraza.

Brandon Dixon drove home Patrick Kivlehan with a single.  Cliff Pennington, who singled scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning.

Vance Worley pitched two inning.  The White scored on a double and two singles as the Reds threw another runner out at the plate.  That set the stage for the Reds comeback, trailing the Sox 7-5.

Cliff Pennington, who signed as a free agent to earn a bench position, singled off losing pitcher. Jose Ruiz.  Brandon Dixon homered to left to tie the game.

Alex Blandino singled and stole second.  Shed Long topped the ball in front of the plate and was thrown out but Blandino got to third.

Long went to Barry Larkin on the bench disappointed that he didn't get a hit.

"You know what I saw?" Larkin asked.  "I saw a runner on second get to third.  That's what I saw."

Tromp waited for Brian Clark to warm up then lined a single to left to end the game.

Price was pleased with the comeback but disappointed in the Reds sloppy play that put them behind in the first place.

"We had a lot of guys on base and wasn't able to do much. We threw to the wrong base.  We didn't play clean baseball the first week," Price said.  "Its been a disappointing first week, the way we've played but the guys kept their enthusiasm, continued to grind it out with good at bats.  That s important."
