Atknson was 2-1 with a 4.50 ERA with Kane County. His first three starts were outstanding covering 17 2/3 innings and allowing three earned runs for a 1.53 ERA. Atkinson walked two and struck out 19 in those games. His last start wasn’t as good. He pitched 2 1/3 innings allowing seven runs on five hits and five walks, but Arizona liked the way he was throwing and promoted him to Visalia.
The Rawhide team employs former Princeton grad Vince Harrison, the older brother of the Pittsburgh Pirates thirdbaseman Josh Harrison.
Atkinson got his first win at Visalia on Wednesday. He pitched five innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits and four walks, while striking out eight.
