Ryan Atknson Colerain and UC Pitcher Has Successful First Professional Start

Ryan Atknison has already made a good first impression on the Arizona Diamondback's organization.

Atkinson allowed an unearned run in his first five innings of professional baseball for the Missoula Osperys against the Great Falls Voyagers.  Atknson allowed four hits and two walks, while striking out three batters against the hard, hitting Voyagers.  Great Falls, the White Sox affiliate, has a .287 team batting average with 17 home runs in 17 games.

The former Colerain Cardinal and UC Bearcat ace, left with a 3-1 lead.  Great Falls rallied for five runs in the bottom of the eighth against Missoula bullpen.  The Ospreys won in 12 innings but Atkinson had a no-decision in his professional debut.

Atknson was not drafted this June but was signed by the Evansville franchise of the independant Frontier League out of a tryout last month at St. Joes' College in Indiana.  He pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings for Evansville before his contract was putchased by the Diamondbacks last week.
