The Giants Even The Series

The Reds jumped in front of the San Francisco Giants in the third inning and for 5 2/3 innings Tony Cingrani made them stand up. But the Giants rallied to take the contest, 3-2.

With two outs and the bases empty in the sixth, Cingrani's magic ended.

Michael Morse belted his 12th home run of the season to get the Giants on the scoreboard.  Brandon Hicks singled and Juan Perez hit his first home run of the season to give the Giants' its first lead of the series.

He(Cingrani) started that inning with 82 pitches and got two quick outs," Bryan Price said.  "I don't know whether he questioned his pitch to Morse but it seemed to bother him.

"I was cruising," Cingrani said.  "I tried to beat Morse with a fastball but he put a good swing on it. Then Hicks got a hit.  I didn't even know who Perez was.  I saw his average. (.048 at game time).  Then I saw it go up.  I was trying to get ahead of him.  I saw he had no home runs too."

The Reds scored twice in the third.

Billy Hamilton's squibber in front of the plate was thrown away by Buster Posey.  Todd Frazier attempted to bunt Hamilton to third.  When that didn't work, Hamilton tried to steal the base but this time Posey made an accurate throw Hamilton was out.  It cost the Reds a run when Frazier hit his 11th home run off Ryan Vogelsong.  Brandon Phillips doubled and scored on Jay Bruce's double.  Bruce was stranded when Devin Mesoraco struck out and Ryan Ludwick grounded out.

Hamilton had three hits and again forced the Giants into some bad throws but the attempted stolen base with no outs was a rookie mistake.

"There were some distractions the first time he was on base in the first inning," Price said.  'Vogelsong hit Phillips trying to be quicker to the plate.  Sometimes the distraction is worth more than the stolen base.  I talked to him about it.  With no outs all we have to do is get the ball on the ground or in the air to get him there.  With one out it would be different.  Vogelsong is 1.2 or 1.3 (seconds) to the plate. It is hard for anyone to steal when they are that quick."{

The Giants bullpen survived an error, the third of the game by the Giants, as Brandon Crawford muffed Phillips ground ball to open the eighth.  Lefty Javier Lopez struck out Bruce swinging. Jean Machi entered and induced a double-play ground ball from Mesoraco.

Sergio Romo, who is remembered for battling Jay Bruce in a long at-bat that clinched the 2012 Division Series for the Giants, started the ninth.

Ludwick flied to center.  Brayan Pena fouled out to the shortstop. Zack Cozart popped to third to end the game.
