Reds Pummel Padres

The Cincinnati Reds lineup that was held back by wet conditions on Saturday, showed up in full force to score 15-4  win against a San Diego Padre split squad.

Billy Hamilton had a double and scored two runs.

Brandon Phillips had a long triple.

Jay Bruce had two hits and drew a walk.  Bruce just missed a home run that traveled every bit of 410 feet but clipped the fence and fell back into play.

Zack Cozart had two hits and scored three runs.

Roger Bernadina had a double, single and walked as the designated hitter.

Devin Mesoraco hit a double and Todd Frazier contributed a single.

The Reds victimized Burch Smith, who allowed six runs and Andrew Carter, who allowed four (one earned).

While the Reds were pounding hit after hit, Brett Marshall, Tim Crabbe and Curtis Parch, held the Padres without a hit.

"It was nice to see Brett Marshall and Crabbe come in and throw the ball well," manager Bryan Price said.

Daniel Corcino gave up the first hit in the sixth to former Red Chris Denorfia.  The two-out hit led to four runs.

The Reds reserves joined the offense.

Skip Schumaker and Neftali Soto had two hits.

Donald Lutz hit a long home run, his first of the spring.

Brandon Phillips made two exceptional plays.  He went deep behind secondbase to take a hit away from Denorfia.  He charged a slow roller by Jedd Gyrko and made a bare-hand stab and throw.

"It was a good all around game.  It was nice to see Jay (Bruce) swing the bat well.  We hit a lot of balls hard, played good defense and moved some runners along with unselfish situational hitting," Price said. "It was just a good all around game."
