Mat Latos' foot got stuck long-tossing on Tuesday.
"Usually when that happens, you can rotate on your heal or the balls of your feet but this time my foot didn't move and my knee was overextended. I heard it pop," Latos said.
The righthander had surgery by Dr. Timothy Kremchek at 6:45 on Wednesday to repair a torn miniscus in his left knee.
Latos came into the clubhouse on crutches this morning but spoke to reporters after emerging from the training room without them.

Latos was working out with Reds' trainers at Beacon Orthopedics four or five days a week this winter.
"I couldn't have prepared any better. My arm hasn't felt this good since 2010 to be honest," Latos said. "We put in a lot of hard work in the three months since October on."
Latos had bone spurs removed from his elbow on October 11. He will resume throwing in seven to 10 days. There is no timetable to his return to normal activity.
"I honestly can't put a timetable on it. The good sign is that I'm walking around on it. There is no limp. We're going to play it by ear."
Chances are good that he could be ready Opening Day.
"There is really no rush to get back. You can't win a championship in April. That being said, I would love to be pitching Opening Day against the Cardinals," Latos said.
