Reds Play Colorado Under the Lights

While bands will be cranking up in Cincinnati from the Mt. Carmel Pub to the Knotty Pine, the Reds will be getting their game together against the Colorado Rockies at 10:05 Cincinnati time at Goodyear Ball Park.

Johnny Cueto is scheduled to pitch five innings.  Armando Galarraga is slated for three innings.  J.J. Hoover will pitch the ninth, if all goes according to plan.

Left-handed pitcher Jeff Francis will pitch for Colorado.  Francis pitched well enough for the Reds last spring to make the team but was caught up in the numbers game and sent to Louisville.  He was the Rockies number one pick in 2002 and pitched for them for six seasons, winning 17 games in 2006.  Francis went to Kansas City for the 2011 season.  He was signed a minor league contract with the Reds for the 2012. That contract allowed him to be a free agent if he was not on the Reds' major league roster by a certain date.  He re-signed with Colorado and finished the season there.

Francis will face:

Shin-Soo Choo CF
Emmanuel Burris 2B
Neftali Soto 1B
Ryan Ludwick LF
Jay Bruce RF
Todd Frazier 3B
Miguel Olivo C
Cesar Izturis SS
Johnny Cueto P

The Reds's starters pitched 42 2/3 innings without allowing a home run until Michael Morse connected off Homer Bailey in the game with Seattle on Thursday.

The game was tied at 7-7 when catcher Mike Zunino belted one off Drew Hayes in the eighth to provide the winning margin for the Mariners.

Denis Phipps hit a pair of doubles for the Reds.  Neftali Soto, Chris Heisey and Henry Rodriguez also hit doubles. Zack Cozart had two hits and drove in two runs.
