The Reds Choose Todd Frazier Over Willie Harris

The Cincinnati Reds risk losing Willie Harris by assigning the left handed hitting infielder/outfielder to Triple A Louisville.

Harris is out of options and can choose free agency.  He has 72 hours to report if he chooses to accept assignment.

The Reds have no left handed hitters on the bench but Todd Frazier and Chris Heisey have been very good in pinch hitting roles.  Frazier has four hits in five pinch hit at bats.  Heisey has three hits in five attempts.  Harris struggled at 1 for 11.

Harris is versatile and hits from the left side.  Dusty Baker prefers veterans in a bench role because they are more able to weather a bad streak.

Miguel Cairo came of a rehab assignment making a move necessary.

Frazier is mature beyond his years and has earned a shot to stay.  He has filled in at thirdbase for Scott Rolen and had a large part in the Reds series win over Pittsburgh.  Frazier is also a capable outfielder.
