Andrew Abbott Follows Bobblehead Day Looking For Series Clincher

A day after the Reds gave a bobblehead with his likeness, All-Star, Andrew Abbott will attempt to clinch the series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday (061426).

Abbott is 4-4 with a 4.10 ERA on the season but his numbers have trended up in the last month. He will make his 15th start of the season. His walks are up this season. He walks four per game this season compared to the 2.3 per game last year. His strikeouts are down from 8.1 per game last season from 3.4 last year.

Abbott has three straight quality starts, all with three earned runs in six innings.

He is 0-1 with a 5.73 ERA against Arizona, lifetime. He was tagged for seven runs, six earned on eight hits on August 23 last season. He gave up eight hits in four innings, including home runs to Lourdes Gurriel and Geraldo Perdomo.

Zac Gallen will take the mound for the Diamondbacks.

He is 3-5 with a 5.43 ERA in 14 starts.

Gallen has given up 13 earned runs in his last 15 1/3 innings, including his last start against the Miami Marlins. He surrendered four runs on nine hits and a walk in 5 1/3 innings in a 10-6 loss on June 9. 

Gallen is 30 years old and the third round pick of the St. Louis Cardinals in 2016.

Gallen and Sandy Alcantara were traded to the Miami Marlins in december 2017 for Marcel Ozuna and broke in with the Marlins in 2019 and made seven starts. The Diamondbacks sent Jazz Chisholm to the Marlins at the trade deadline in 2019 to obtain the right hander.

He has six career starts against the Reds with a 1-2 record and 3.16 ERA. He lost his last start against the Reds on June 8 at Great American Ball Park. Gallen lasted 6 2/3 innings and allowed four runs on six hits, that included home runs by Christian Encarnacion-Strand, Jose Trevino and Matt McLain.
