The Reds placed RHP relief pitcher Pierce Johnson on the 15-day injured list with inflammation in his right elbow.
The Reds selected the contract of Lyon Richardson from Triple A Louisville.
To make room on the 40-man roster the team designated Kyle Nicolas for assignment.
Johnson appeared in 24 games with a 2-1 record and one save. He has a 3.27 ERA.
Richardson appeared in 18 games at Louisville with a 2-2 record and 4.75 ERA.
Nicolas pitched in seven games for the Reds with 1-0 record and 8.59 ERA.
In Louisville he appeared in 14 games with a 6.59 ERA.
