Dateline: Cincinnati
The Reds welcomed Graham Ashcraft back from the bereavement list. He had gone to Alabama to be with his ailing grandfather.
Zach Maxwell, who gave up two home runs to the Pirates on Friday, was sent back to Louisville. Maxwell was aware his stay was temporary. The Reds had to absorb the loss without over using its short handed bullpen.
Brady Singer could only give the Reds three innings.
The Reds also sent Nick Lodolo to Louisville to make a second rehab start with the team on the road in Omaha.
Lodolo is fixing a blister problem which diminishes his ability to throw his breaking ball. He pitched five scoreless innings in Dayton last week.
The timing for the Reds is convenient since Brandon Williamson landed on the injured list with shoulder fatigue.
