Nick Lodolo left the game after two batters and a 1-1 count on the third on Jose Ramirez. He had a blister on his left index finger. Lodolo was on the injured list last year and in 2024 with a blister. He threw 10 pitches.
Lodolo walked leadoff hitter, Steven Kwan. Angel Martinez followed with a home run.
"He had a blister. They popped it over in the training room and drained some of it," Terry Francona said after the game. "We're going to have to take the next couple days because of his history. We will just have to see. There is obviously some apprehension, so we will just have to see."
"We don't want to lose anybody but if we do, nobody is going to feel sorry for us," Francona said. "We'll figure it out. I always feel like that, we'll figure it out. Williamson needs to pitch here Wednesday. With the off day we could move other guys up, probably not him."
They want Williamson to stay on a schedule since he hasn't pitched in a big league game in 15 months. Brady Singer is expected to start on Monday in Milwaukee, that would give him full compliment of four days rest and he would be available to fill in for Lodolo's scheduled start on Saturday the 28th against Boston. Chase Burns is set to pitch on Tuesday in Milwaukee. Lowder is in the same situation as Williamson, having missed all of last season. He last pitched on March 14 in Cactus League play.
Griffin Green, not to be confused with Hunter Greene, came into the game. Green was signed as an undrafted free agent on August 7, 2025. This is his first pro season. He attended Wake Forest University, the same college that Rhett Lowder and Chase Burns attended as pitchers.
Green allowed singles to Jose Ramirez, the first batter he faced, and Bo Naylor and a walk to Case DeLauter.
Noelvi Marte hit his fourth spring home run off Gavin Williams in the second inning.
The Guardians scored two more off Green in the second inning. He walked Brayan Rocchio and Kwan to start the inning. two out singles by Rhys Hoskins and DeLauter drove in the runs.
Minor leaguer Brady Afthim took over in the third inning. Afthim is in his first professional season. He is 23-years old from Boston, Massachusetts and pitched at the University of Connecticut. The Reds drafted him in the 13th round in the 2025 draft.
Kyle Manzado hit his third home run of the Cactus League against Afthim.
Graham Ashcraft entered the game in the fourth inning. He allowed a run on one hit and a walk, striking out one.
Connor Phillips pitched a scoreless fifth inning with a strikeout.
Luis Mey allowed an unearned run. Mey will start the season in Louisville. Minor league pitchers Stephen Quigley and Kyle McCoy pitched scoreless innings.
