Dane Myers Scratched Blake Dunn Plays Earlier Than Planned

Dateline: Goodyear, Arizona

The original lineup for the Goodyear game had Dane Myers leading off and playing center field. Myers is out with an undisclosed sickness.

Sickness showed up two weeks ago in camp but no one has missed a game until now.

That has changed. Blake Dunn will now leadoff and play right field. Noelvi Marte will move over to center field.

Dunn hyperextended his right knee a week ago against the San Francisco Giants in Scottsdale. He worked all week with rehab specialist Erik Gonzalez. Dunn was going to get an extra day or two until Myers couldn't go today.

Francona discussed Dunn's condition at noon but it has changed in the last two hours.

"Dunn is not quite ready, yet," Francona said in a meeting with the press. "He really thinks he's fine, which is good. The hitting guys kind of voiced in the cage, they just don't see him quite being himself. With respect to him competing, I get it. We just can't do something we're not supposed to do but you'll see him pretty soon."

The pretty soon turned out to be faster than expected.
