David Holberg Starts Game Two

Left-handed David Holmberg made his Major League debut last August 27 against San Diego at the age of 22.  He pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits in a 10-9 win.

Over the winter, Holmberg came to the Reds in three-way trade among Arizona, Tampa Bay and the Reds.  The Reds gave up Ryan Hanigan, who went to Tampa Bay.

Holmgerg spent most of the season at Double A Mobile with a 5-8 record in 26 starts with a 2.75 ERA,

The 6'3", 225 pound pitcher was with the team in spring training, Holmberg allowed two runs in two innings this spring and wasn't 100 percent at the start of the season.

"He was banged up coming out of spring training," Bryan Price said.  "The first part of the season his number were terrible."

Holmberg was 0-4 with a 5.38 ERA at Louisville.

"The last four or five starts, he's been outstanding," Price said.

Siuce June 15, Holmberg has pitched 22 1/3 innings and allowed just three earned runs for a 1.21 ERA.
