Mike Leake Shines as Reds Starting Pitching Show a Positive Trend in 10-2 Win over Giants

Dusty Baker said it at the beginning of the Reds last home stand, "This team is capable of putting together a 10 game winning streak.  Two good turns around the rotation would do that."

After a dismall 2-8 road trip that ended last month in which the starting pitching turned in short outing after short outing, the Reds have now gotten six straight quality starts in a row.

Mike Leake turned in his second straight on Saturday with eight shutout innings, giving the second year pitcher, 15 innings with just one run allowed.

Meanwhile the Reds scored seven runs against former Cy Young winner, Tim Lincecum, in four innings.

Leake himself had two hits, including a double.  Paul Janish and Ryan Hanigan continued recent improvement with two hits apiece.  Hanigan hit an RBI single that opened the scoring off Lincecum.

Joey Votto improved on his league leading batting average (now .339).  Brandon Phillips drove in two runs.

Drew Stubbs reached base four times and scored two runs.  Stubbs 48 runs scored is second in the NL.

The Reds turned a 10-0 lead over to Carlos Fisher to get him an inning of work and try to get his confidence back.

Pat Burrell spoiled what would have been the Reds second shutout of the series with a two-run home run off Fisher.
